I got the opportunity to sneak out in the woods after work. I got a later start than I would have liked, but that should never stop you from heading out into the woods, unless you think you are going to ruin a fellow hunter’s day by walking in the woods too late. I headed to one of my normal go to locations for after work hunts in Loch Raven. Not long after I got up in my stand and got settled in, I had a doe and fawn come feeding up to me and they hung around from about 4 p.m. until maybe 4:30 p.m. or so, but never really presented a shot. Then things got quite for a bit, until around 5 p.m. when I had another doe walk just out of range. Things got quite for almost an hour until around 6:15 p.m., when I had another doe walk out into a clearing about 70 yards away, she looked very nervous. She was feeding in the clearing and then all of a sudden ran back into the thicket (I was hoping a buck was nearby and he was making her nervous). About 5 minutes later, I had another big doe and yearling walk around me at about 50 yards, but that was it. As it got dark, I watched them walk on to their next feeding location. I never did figure out what made the one doe so nervous, she stayed in that thicket for a long time and then walked back the way she came. All I can say is that it is good to see does, in another few weeks where there are does there will be bucks! This is the first spot that I have hunted with decent outlook for the next few weeks. I still have more locations around Loch Raven that I will be hunting over the next month or so.
Did anyone else make it out this week? What have you been seeing? We would love to hear from our readers!
