So far hunting season has been pretty slow for me. Like the past couple years life had prevented me from getting out in the woods as much as I would like, a lot less than I would like. However, I have made it out about 8 times so far this season.
Nothing super exciting to report. I had a couple fun hunts where I saw lots of deer. A few early season hunts where I only saw things I let walk, or things that didn't present a good shot. A few weeks back I was out one evening and had the opportunity to harvest a nice doe for meat in the freezer.
She came into my stand walking right at 20 yards broadside. I couldn't ask for a better shot and it was early in the evening. I took the shot, saw my arrow sitting in the ground. She ran 15 yards stopped and looked around, and then fell over. Couldn't ask for a better shot and no tracking needed. When I opened her up, it was a clean pass through right through her heart.
great evening and put some meat in the freezer.
I was out one evening back about 3 weeks ago when a good friend of mine I was hunting with was able to harvest a really nice buck we were targeting in one area that we hunt. Congrats to him again on an awesome deer.
Since, then I have been out a couple times and seen some deer mostly at distance or smaller bucks chasing does that I will let grow up a few more years. I have seen lots of spikes, 3's, 4's. 5's and a few 6's and small 8's. This year seems to be the large supply of juvenile bucks that are just 1 1/2 years old or maybe 2 1/2 years old. It's always nice to see and watch a buck in the woods, but I am targeting the 3 1/2 year old or older bucks.
I am hoping to get out more in the next couple weeks as chasing has been happening and with the full moon coming in just about a week, I suspect hunting will stay very good over the next week or two and maybe beyond that depending on your area and the does.
I'll be posting a trail camera picture update soon with some of the deer we have been getting on camera.
Hope everyone is staying safe in our upside down world we currently live in and are enjoying the outdoors. I hope you are having a great hunting season and we would love to hear from others on how their season is going and what they are seeing!
Good luck and Happy Hunting!
