Headed back out in the woods this evening in hopes something would be moving with the cooler weather. It was a beautiful evening in the woods and I was glad I was able to get out, I headed to one of my favorite trees in Loch Raven. I got in my tree late as it was between 4:30 and 5 which is why I picked the tree I was in. I got settled in and started the waiting, I saw some squirrels, some geese flew over, lots of other birds.. Around 6:15 I saw a flick of white, which at first I thought it was a bird, but I kept watching and saw it again and was able to pin point the location it was coming from. I threw up the binoculars and looked down into the thick woods and quickly saw it was in fact a deer. I watched the deer for several minutes as it was feeding along slowly headed toward me. As soon as it got out of the thick cover I quickly saw it was a big spike. He had 10 inch spikes, but was still just a 1 1/2 year old and I will let me go and let him grow up. I did however draw on him when he was standing broadside to slightly quartering away at 28 yards just to remember what it feels like. It's been a long time since I shot a deer. Getting an itchy trigger finger, but that will have to wait to get fixed until a big boy walks in front of me, or maybe in a couple weeks a doe will get it to help fill the freezer or get donated to the feed the hungry program.
All and all a very nice evening, but that one spike was all I saw, so for me it seemed like a slow night. Try again next time in a different spot.
Anyone else seeing anything more than I have?
