This past season has been hard for me. I went out a few times during gun season, a few during late muzzleloader season, and both evenings of late gun season. Well, lets just talk about a bust. I didn't see anything most of the those hunts. One evening during late muzzleloader season I saw a doe, but it was as it was getting dark at almost 100 yards and I couldn't get a clear shot when I could actually see her in my scope. Another evening during late muzzleloader I had a hurt small buck, he had broken leg, come running down into the woods I was hunting, I took a shot at him as was moving through the woods carrying his leg, but on the trot at around 90 yards with just a split second to shoot, I missed.
The rest of the both gun seasons were hunts sitting in the woods, either hearing shots close by but not seeing any deer, or not hearing or seeing anything other than birds.
As late gun season just ended this past Saturday, I spent Friday and Saturday evenings in the woods, all I saw or heard between the two evenings was doves, and geese. Nothing else was moving in the woods. I know it's getting late and traditionally in the late season where I hunt it's hit or miss. As deer are herding up, you normally either see a bunch or nothing at all. Well, I got nothing at all. As bow season is now back in until the end of the year, I will likely try to get out a couple more times in the next few weeks to put one more deer in the freezer. The doe I harvested back earlier in the year with my bow wont last us the winter let alone until next hunting season.
Hopefully all of you are having a good and safe season, and had more success than me this hunting season!
Starting to think about spring turkey season already!
