I finally made it out on the bay for trophy rockfish season, 2 1/2 weeks into the season. Fishing has been terrible up to late so we actually moved the trip from the first week of the season to today, because, of how bad the fishing was.
We went out on a charter boat, got to the dock around 5:30 a.m. and hit the water.
It was a slow morning and between 6 - 11 A.M. we had a couple strikes but lost the fish either before they were hooked, or just as they started to get reeled in. It was a bummer and the Capt. of the boat wasn't happy in the least since fishing has been so tough lately and he knew they could of been the only fish we caught all day.
Well, around 11 A.M. or so we hooked up with another fish and this time it was hooked good. After a good fight we landed this pretty 41" fish.
Then our day got quite again.... I even fell asleep on the boat for a few minutes ago.... Slow as it goes apparently this spring. Well, our trip ended at 2, so around 1:20 our Capt. and mate started slowing down and bringing in the rods. After they got about 1/4 of the rods in we got a strike, fish on!
After short fight as this fish didn't know it was hooked really and almost swam to the boat, we landed a second fish, this one also measuring 41"!
That was our trip, beautiful day out on the water, with some great company! We had a good day bringing in a pair of 41" rockfish. Couldn't ask for a better day and thank so much to our Capt. and Mate as they did a great job.
Have you been out rockfishing this season? Love to hear how you did and even see some pictures of what you caught!
